Regional education and training providers play a critical role in preparing current and future workers for the jobs of tomorrow. South Regional TAFE and ECU South West provide pathways from vocational training through to higher education, helping students develop the technical, professional and research skills needed across growth sectors including engineering, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, health, digital technologies and infrastructure. Together, these institutions are developing local capability in areas critical to the region’s future, including engineering, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, healthcare and digital technologies.

As industries evolve, the region is also focused on supporting workforce transition and lifelong learning. In Collie, the dedicated Jobs and Skills Centre provides career planning, training advice and employment support for workers, businesses and the broader community. This work is complemented by significant investment in training and reskilling initiatives as part of the Collie Just Transition, helping workers build on existing skills and connect with new opportunities in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, mineral processing and other emerging industries.

Industry-led collaboration is helping ensure the South West workforce remains responsive to changing industry needs and future employment opportunities. The Collie Education and Training Alliance (CETA) brings together schools, training providers, employers and government to better align education and training with industry needs. By fostering partnerships between education and industry, CETA helps create clear pathways from school to training and employment, ensuring local students develop the skills required to support the region’s evolving economy.
Technology is also playing an increasingly important role in connecting people with employment and training opportunities. The recently launched Collie Job Connect platform provides a digital gateway to jobs, training and career pathways within the region, helping workers and job seekers connect directly with local employers and identify new opportunities as the local economy continues to diversify.
